Fowey is a beautiful Cornish harbour town steeped in history. Its narrow cobbled lanes are lined by elegant Victorian and Edwardian architecture cascading down to the waterfront, bustling with cafes, restaurants and boutique shops. The Old Bank studio is spacious and light with large sash windows and high ceilings, and the gallery cafe downstairs serves great coffee and cake. Numbers in this workshop are limited to 8 people.

Polruan is a traditional Cornish boat building village steeped in history.  Small in size but with abundant character, the Quay Arts Hub is at the centre of Polruan's busy creative community with art classes, exhibitions, talks and gatherings. Overlooking the harbour, the Hub neighbours the two pubs, cafe and the village shop. Numbers in this workshop are limited to 5 people.​

I am delighted to have been invited to teach at Higher Spargo Art School - a unique artistic community based in West Cornwall. Their growing programme of courses and masterclasses are tutored by resident artists such as sculptor Tim Shaw RA and Colombian artist Carlos Zapata, as well as guest artists such as painter Emily Roberts.​

My workshop at Higher Spargo is a step by step guide through the creative woodcut process.
  • Choosing and preparing woodblocks, using specialist plywoods, plank blocks and wildwood
  • considering how to compose a design in harmony with the individual characteristics of the wood 
  • carving, inking and printing a woodblock using traditional hand pressing methods.
No previous experience is necessary to join this workshop, the course is designed to accommodate both curious beginners as well as experienced artists. 

Stay at Trethake

My studio is now happily ensconced at Trethake on the south coast of Cornwall in a rural river valley is just 1-mile from the south west coast path. Known as the Cornish Riviera, the coastline here is one of Cornwall's best kept secrets, with rocky coves, sandy beaches, dense woodland and an emerald river estuary. Wildflowers, butterflies and birds thrive in the coastal meadows and dolphins, seals and porpoises can be spotted in the clear summer water. 
The perfect Cornish retreat for an artist - Trethake Barn is a lovely large open plan living space with apex ceilings, flagstone floors and underfloor heating. Set in 7 acres of water meadows and woodland. Endless walking opportunities from the garden gate with footpaths, green lanes, bridle ways and coast paths.
